6) Battle of the Books Participants...If you are reading a book for the Battle of the Books that was checked out before Christmas break, please return it to the Library, so other students can have a chance to read it as well.

7) If you have library books that were checked out before break, they are now overdue and need to be returned to the library.

8) Spirit Wear Update: The week before Christmas break the 6th graders took first place over the 7th graders. This past week the 7th grade retained first place by 1 percentage point. It’s been a tight competitive race with one week remaining. This Friday will determine the factor. Remember we count the time between grading periods, so if your grade level does not win this time, a new race starts on January 20th through February 28th. An ice cream treat is your prize, good luck to all and remember every Friday wear Jefferson Apparel.

9) Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Contest Winners: Congratulations to Mailayne Samuel and Alec Lynch, both of House 6-1! Mailayne won 1st place and Alec won 2nd place in the 6-8 Multimedia Category. They will be recognized at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Breakfast which will be held on Monday, January 19th.

Parents of Students Receiving Special Education Services The Iowa Department of Education is interested in learning about partnerships between Iowa schools and parents of school-age children who receive special education. If you are a parent with a child who receives special education services in Iowa, please take a few minutes to complete the 25-item survey. The results will be compared to national findings and used to identify areas of success and those in need of improvement. The survey will close Jan. 15.
