4) We are saddened to announce the passing of a Jefferson student, DeMarkel Williams on December 26, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Services were held in Chicago over the winter break. As a school community, we grieve the loss of our student, our classmate, and our friend. The best way that families can help is to continue to work to show support to each other. Our guidance counselors are available if anyone needs grief assistance. A video honoring DeMarkel's memory was shown to the entire student body. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNF_2rTUyeY&feature=youtu.be

Everyone is wearing red in memory of DeMarkel Williams today. Red was his favorite color. Then next Friday, January 16th we will be holding our winter Jefferson dance from 2:30-4:30. We had previously scheduled with Loras College to hold a mini Dance Marathon where the proceeds will be donated to the University of Iowa Children's Hospitals. It is only fitting that we are able to donate our dance proceeds to such a worthy organization where DeMarkel received treatment for cancer. The cost for this dance will be $4 in order to provide an additional donation.

Parents of Students Receiving Special Education Services The Iowa Department of Education is interested in learning about partnerships between Iowa schools and parents of school-age children who receive special education. If you are a parent with a child who receives special education services in Iowa, please take a few minutes to complete the 25-item survey. The results will be compared to national findings and used to identify areas of success and those in need of improvement. The survey will close Jan. 15.
