1) Holiday grams are on sale through today with cart mart. $0.25 Buy one for your friends, write them some holiday greetings, then put their homebase on the card, and on Friday, December 20th they will be delivered with a candy cane.

2) Please remember to save your Box Tops during the holiday baking season. There will be a contest in January.

3) Birthdays Today - December 19th...Dominick Schultz.

4) All wrestlers have one more practice today after school. Remember to bring $2.00 to Coach Morehouse by today for pizza.

5) Any 7th or 8th grade girl wanting to go out for Dance, sign up in the main office. You must have an updated physical.

6) Any 7th or 8th grade boy interested in playing basketball, sign up in the main office. You must have an updated physical. Practice starts January 6th.

7) The cast list for Fiddler on the Roof is posted on the auditorium door. Anyone with a lead part must attend a meeting after school today.

Fighting Saints Game Tickets are in for the Jefferson night at the Fighting Saints Game on Friday, January 3rd. The Jefferson Band will be playing that National Anthem and we have a section reserved just for us behind the Fighting Saints Goal for periods 1 and 3. Tickets are $8.50. Any student or parent can buy these tickets. Normal ticket price is $12.95 so we are getting a good deal. Come and join in the fun. If you want us to keep your ticket here at school so you don't lose it, we will do that for you. All checks should be made out to the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Mr. Kramer will pay for any Jefferson Staff member that would like to join us.

1) Students who are in the talent show and working as crew for the talent show will rehearse today, December 9th. The following students will report to the lunchroom at 10:45 to eat before rehearsal. Rehearsal will take place in the auditorium from 11:00-12:30. Sixth and seventh graders will be late to 7th period. 8th graders will miss the beginning of 6th period on those days. 8) Congratulations to the Hillhawk Heroes, our First Lego League team that won the “Against All Odds” award at the Regional Competition on Saturday.  This award goes to the team that improvises and overcomes a difficult situation while still making a respectable showing, with an attitude that shows, “We can overcome incredible odds if we never give up, no matter what!”   Team members included:  Sean Bradley, Riley Connolly, Alex Cota, Owen Dunne, Elizabeth Freiburger, Taya Hess, Tyler Lyons, Maddie Peter, Joe Vize, Moriah Zimmerman, Eric McDonough, Logan Ellingboe, Addison Kalb, Mason Kobliska, and Noah Dougherty.  The Heroes would like to thank their coach Mrs. Meyer for all of her support.

7) Loras College Dance Marathon is a year-long fundraiser run by students that provides support to children from Dubuque and the surrounding areas who have been treated at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and their families. We support the children and their families emotionally and financially through the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and help give them a second chance at being kids. Read the stories some of our families posted in the cafeteria. We hope to see you at the dance on Friday to help support our cause.

8) Fundraiser items at Friday’s dance will be: (bracelets for $2 either blue or glow in the dark); (throw back tee shirts for $5 in variety of colors); (silly bands for $0.25); and (sunglasses for $3). Remember all proceeds go to Iowa Children’s hospital.

We support the children and their families emotionally and financially through the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and help give them a second chance at being kids. Read the stories some of our families posted in the cafeteria. We hope to see you at the dance on Friday to help support our cause.

This is our Mini Dance Marathon and the proceeds of this dance will be donated to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.  The cost for admission is $5 and you must have a photo id. Health Concern It seems that some students are rubbing their skin with erasers so hard that they are giving themselves significant burn marks. Students, please do no participate in this activity. It is not healthy for anyone to be doing things that damage any part of your body. Teachers, please watch for any students that might be involved in this kind of behavior and report them to the health office.

Get involved with TJMS Site Council!

Parents, guardians, and friends of Thomas Jefferson Middle School:  We invite you to learn more about us by becoming a member of our site council.  This group meets once monthly to learn more about the activities happening at Jefferson.  Our first meeting of the year will be held on Friday, October 4 from noon to 1 PM.  The topic of this meeting will be the district technology plan and how this infusion of technology will be utilized in our building.  You'll get to see some of our new computer labs and tablets in action as well.  If you are interested in being a site council member, please contact Phil Kramer, Jefferson principal at pkramer@dbqschools.org or 552-4700.

2) Sports Today - Girls Gold Volleyball...Jefferson Gold vs. Washington Blue. 7th grade at Washington and 8th grade at Jefferson; both games begin at 4 p.m.

3) Actors and Actresses...The Bell Tower Theater is offering acting classes for students in grades 6-8. If you are interested, stop in the main office to pick up a flyer.

4) Every Monday/Thursday from now until December 5th...7th and 8th grade Lego League will be meeting in the auditorium during period 5.

5) Every Tuesday/Friday from now until November 5th...Mock Trial will be meeting in the auditorium during period 5.

RE-DEDICATION OF DALZELL FIELD Join us for the dawn of a new era at the RE-DEDICATION OF DALZELL FIELD Sunday, September 22 2 p.m. A short program will be followed by a community open house of the new facility, with access to the team rooms, press box, field and more. Students are invited to wear their school colors and join in a celebratory lap around the new stadium. 6) Congrats to the RED volleyball teams who played their openers on Monday night. The 7th graders won 5 out of the 6 games, and the 8th graders showed vast improvements from last season. Paige Connolly showed great improvement in her serves, she led the team in scoring for the night. Great Job Ladies. Gold volleyball teams begin their season on Thursday night. Go get them Hillhawks!

4) Birthdays Today - September 7th...Angel Carroll, Taitem Marburger.

5) 7th and 8th grade students should NOT go through the 6th grade hallway upstairs during transition time. They should use the middle or south stair cases. If they use the north staircases they should be going to the main floor and not the top floor. It is way too congested if they go through the 6th grade hallway. This is mostly a 7th grade issue but the 8th graders do have the digital literacy class upstairs so they should use the middle stairwell to go to this class.

Due to excessive heat, all Dubuque Schools will be dismissing 2 hours early.  There are no after-school sports practices on any early release days.

4) Bus 821, which was in the front of the building, will now load students from the back of Jefferson.

5) Picture Day is Wednesday, August 28th. You will be photographed even if you are not purchasing any pictures. If you need a picture packet, please stop by the main office for one.
