4) Any 6th grade student interested in a drawing contest, see Mr. Hatcher or Mrs. Henkels for more details. Draw a picture of any Historical Building in Iowa and you could win $100.00! Entries are due April 13th.

5) Any 7th or 8th grader interested in a photography contest see Mr. Hatcher or Mrs. Henkels. Take a photo of any Historical Building in Iowa and submit it to the Iowa Architectural Foundation and you could win $100.00. Entries are due by March 14, 2012.

6) Attention Students...If you have overdue library books from January, charges are being sent home next week. Locker clean-outs are a great place to start looking for your lost library books! Thank you from Ms. Cairns and Mrs. Neyens.

7) Sports Today...Boys Basketball - Jefferson Red vs. Roosevelt Silver. 7th grade at Roosevelt and
8th grade at Jefferson; both games begin at 4 p.m.

5) Hempstead Fall Cheerleading is having a mandatory preseason tryout meeting on Monday, March 26th at 6:30 p.m. in the Hempstead Auditorium. Any questions please contact Coach Kress at 552-5087.

Public Input Meetings regarding Hempstead HS Renovations


The Dubuque Community School District has taken the first steps in the planning efforts for completing the additions and renovations at Hempstead High School. It is the district’s desire and intent to involve the community and stakeholders in this effort and we would like to gather input from all interested individuals and groups.
FEH Associates Architects and Engineers of Dubuque has been selected as the design professional for this exciting work. They will be conducting a series of interviews and Public Design workshops on the Hempstead High School Campus. The design team will be working on site to gather input and develop the project space needs, designs, and schemes. The meetings are scheduled as follows:
Design Charrette Workshop No. 1A: Thursday February 23, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
            The day will be an open forum for input from all interested parties. There will be two formal meetings/presentations during the day at noon and 5:00 to allow people to hear about the project and the progress to date.
Design Charrette Workshop No. 1B: Friday February 24, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
            The day will be an open forum for input from all interested parties. There will be two formal meetings/presentations during the day at noon and 5:00 to allow people to hear about the project and the progress to date.

            The day will be an open forum for input from all interested parties. We invite everyone to join these discussions even if you have only a few minutes to tell us your thoughts. Stakeholders are welcome to stay and provide input as many times as desired. The meetings will be held in the High School building. Just check in at the parking lot entry and visitors will be directed to the appropriate location.

If you are in basketball, then just let your basketball coach know you will be attending the audition or stop by the auditorium after practice. 5) Auditions for the musical will be after school on Monday and Tuesday, February 6 and 7. Please be ready to read a short paragraph and sing a simple song like Happy Birthday. If you are in basketball, you may come after practice or get permission from your coach to come early. You can be in both sports and the musical.
