6) Dear Jefferson Girls and Parents (s):

It has become apparent in my two years here that our students do not have some of the opportunities that other middle school students do to play sports outside of school. This concerning as sports are one way for students to be connected to school.

I wrote a grant to the HavLife foundation to sponsor three girls’ basketball teams in the Dubuque Y Sports Association (DYSA) league. We received the grant. This is an excellent opportunity for our girls to learn about the game of basketball, being a good teammate and to be competitive.
Here is the basic information:

Who: Any Jefferson Middle School girl interested in playing basketball.

What: Play in the DYSA Girls’ Basketball League September 30th – October 28th at Roosevelt Middle School. Game will be held on Saturdays and the girls will play double headers during the league season.

Cost: It is free!

Practice: We will practice once a week for sure. We will work around 7th and 8th grade volleyball practice and games. Younger siblings cannot attend practice.

If you are interested in your daughter participating, please complete the following information and return it to Kelly Molony (Principal) by August 25th.
