Student Announcements - Wednesday, February 4, 2015 - Day A

1) Hempstead strength and conditioning coach, Nathan Oswalt is hosting a free “middle school strength clinic”. Any 7th or 8th grade boy or girl is welcome to attend. Session begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. See Mr. Hatcher for more details or ask your homebase teacher.

2) Chess Club will meet today from 3-4 p.m.

3) Sports Today - Boys Gold Basketball...Jefferson Gold vs. Washington White. 7th grade at Washington and 8th grade at Jefferson; both games begin at 4 p.m.

4) Birthdays Today - February 4th...Zachary Smith.

5) Teens Tackling Tough Topics is a great opportunity for teens to discuss social pressures and other issues teens face today in a safe and welcoming place. Potential field trips activities and team building games will take place at each meeting. Sign up through LEAP today, the club will meet every Tuesday and Thursday through the end of February.

6) Any 8th graders that didn't go to the High School Open Houses on Monday, January 29th please see Mrs. Schroeder in Guidance.

7) It is time again for the Box Top contest. This is a reminder for students to bring in box tops . The contest will run from February 9th to the 12th. We will get containers to each Home Room before the contest begins and we will have a first and second place winners. 1st place HR will be awarded a pizza party and 2nd place will have ice cream treats.

9) Are you between the ages of 13-17? How would you like to earn $1,000 this summer? Future Talk is a program of diverse youth expanding and strengthening the community through work in the outdoors, working with local partners, environmental literacy, and service to the community. Financial literacy and employment workshops are offered to each participant to help youth reach their highest potential. Applications are available for pick up at the Multicultural Family Center or on their website: mfcdbq.org and are due by March 15, 2015.

Dance Marathon We are pleased to announce that we were able to donate just under $800 to the Loras Dance Marathon from the proceeds of our Dance in January. This contribution will be given to the Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City in memory of DeMarkel Williams an 8th grader here at Jefferson. Thank you to all of the students that donated to this cause.
