Student Announcements - Thursday, April 19, 2012 Day A

1) Today is a Day A.

2) All Students are reminded to be logging their physical activity minutes and screen time (t.v., computer, video games) daily to turn into their wellness teachers for Live Healthy Iowa kids.

3) 8th grade baseball tryouts for Hempstead will take place from Monday, April 30th through Tuesday, May 8th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Core Field.

4) Our final dance for the school year will be held tomorrow, April 20th, from 2:30-4:30 PM. Wristbands are $3 and will be sold at all lunches on the day of the dance. An ID is required for the dance. Replacement IDs can be purchased in the main office next week every day but Friday. Concessions will be available for purchase, including bake sale items and root beer floats. The theme for this dance is neon and tie dye. Student Government is sponsoring a dodge ball tournament which will be held at the dance. Sign up with a team of 7-10 members. The cost to participate in dodge ball is $1 per person. If you are interested in having a dodge ball team with your friends, you will need to sign up by today, APRIL 19th at 2:30 PM. No teams will be allowed to sign up at the dance. Your homebase teacher has details on how to sign up for the dodge ball tournament.

5) Girls track pictures are in the main office. Stop and pick them up if you placed an order.

6) All Leap Activities for Friday (4/20/12) are canceled due to the school dance.

7) Music Man rehearsal today for full cast from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.

8) Any students needing a physical, please see the nurse. Physicals will be given on Tuesday, April 24th.

9) 6th grade football and volleyball both begin on Monday, April 23rd. A physical must be on file in the main office to participate.

10) The boys track meet that was canceled on Friday, April 13th will be made up on Monday, April 23rd at Wahlert High School.

Wednesday, March 28, 2012 Day B

1) Today is a Day B.

2) All Students are reminded to be logging their physical activity minutes and water/milk servings daily to turn into their wellness teachers for Live Healthy Iowa kids.

3) The Hempstead Booster Club is sponsoring the Annual Bunny Hop 4K Run/Walk on April 7th. Please consider supporting this important fund raising event. Registration forms are available in the main office. Return forms to the main office.

4) 6th Grade Girls Basketball will practice today.

5) Anyone who hasn't turned in their basketball uniforms, needs to do it asap or you will be charged.

6) Congratulations to the following students in House 6-1 whose essays were selected to be published in the book "What is Important to Me". They are entered in the final competition. The published writers are Brianna Fry, Evan Wieser, Mason Kobliska, Jeni McGlynn, Taylor Greenwald, Koehler Miller, Julia Meehan, and Griffin Benson. Keep up the excellent writing!

7) There is a musical rehearsal tomorrow with Mrs. Oglesby in the choir room. All members of the cast are encouraged to attend. Eat your lunch from 11:00 to 11:25 and then head over to the choir room. All major and minor cast members are supposed to bring their scripts with them.

3) Please remember to save Box Tops, Swiss Valley Milk lids and Campbell soup labels while baking over the holidays.

Student Announcements - Friday, December 16, 2011 Day B

1) Today is a Day B.

2) Students - The computer lab is very busy now during homebase. If you need a spot, get a pass early and we will assign you a computer. If not, you might not be able to "drop-in" and use the computer. If you sign up for a computer and no longer need one, it is important that you let us know.

Also, next week after you clean out your locker, clean out your backpack and get your lost or overdue library books returned! A great resolution for the new year would be to have no overdue books for the rest of the year! Thank you from Mrs. Neyens and Ms Cairns.

Used Shoe Drive TJMS will be holding a shoe drive from December 1st to December 20th. Bring all of your old athletic shoes to the main office. All of the shoes will be taken to a Nike plant and recycled. If you have any questions please contact Emily Schleter, House 7-1.

5) Congratulations to the students selected for the Northeast Iowa String Teachers Honors Orchestra. These students are Margaret Kratz, Rebecca Schueller, Bailey Hansen and Dona Rogers.

7) This Holiday season the JAVA staff will be selling Christmas Grams to anyone interested. Purchase a Christmas gram for your friends, or teachers. On the Christmas gram make sure you include who it is for, who it is from, and the homebase of the student or teacher you are buying it for. During homebase on the last day of school before Christmas break Java will deliver the Grams with a Candy Cane to anyone who receives one. You can color the picture on the front and write a little Holiday message on the inside. They cost 25 cents each. You pick them up from Cart Mart starting tomorrow. After you complete the Christmas Gram you can take it to the library and put it in the Christmas Gram box. They will be delivered to your homebase on the last day of school before Christmas break. You can send as many as you want to a friend, teacher, counselor, or helper teacher. Happy Holidays from your friendly neighborhood JAVA staff.

8) Our next school dance/activity night will be on Friday, December 16th. It is our annual Mini Dance Marathon and proceeds raised are donated to the Loras College Dance Marathon and Children's Miracle Network, helping kids all over the state/locally who are battling illnesses and disease.  Cost for the dance is $3, and there will be some extra activities like dodgeball and knockout which are available for $1.  Snacks will be available for purchase.  You must have a school id to attend the dance and ID's will not be made on Friday.

Student Announcements - Friday, December 2, 2011 Day B

1) Today is a Day B.

2) Attention students...Do you have a talent such as singing, playing an instrument, or dancing? Auditions for this year's talent show will be after school on December 14th or 15th from 2:45-4:00. If you are interested in trying out for the show, you should prepare an act and come to one of the after school times and present your act to the panel of judges. We are not able to put all of the acts in the final show, so the judges rate the acts on whether they are interesting and show preparation and talent. All acts should be between 1 and 4 minutes long and contain nothing that is offensive. You can pick up specific guidelines from Ms. Baumann or Ms. Roussel in the guidance office. For those acts needing accompanying music, there will be a computer with internet access available during the auditions.

3) Congratulations to this year's House Spelling Bee winners! They are as follows: 6-1...Koehler Miller, Max Coenen, Taylor Greenwald; 6-2...Emma Wiebke, Brianna Heffner, Joseph Hoyne; 7-1...Olivia Auderer, Carrie Klein, Grace Priest; 7-2...Nick Miller, Cody Bartels, Ethan Sanchez; 8-1...Toni Naab, Justin Bahl, Grant Davis; 8-2...Austin Howard, Liz Griesinger, Anna Gates. Students need to report to the auditorium on Tuesday, December 6th at 11:00. Please let your homebase teacher know where you are going and you will return to your homebase immediately following the Spelling Bee. The top 5 winners will move on to the next round at Washington Middle School. Good luck and be sure to study this weekend!

Report Card Envelopes Your signed report card envelops are due today. If you have lost your envelope you need to purchase a new one in the main office. The cost for a new envelop is $1.

Student Announcements - Monday, October 31, 2011, Day A

1) Today is Day A.

2) Birthdays today - October 31st...Tyler Asbell.

3) Congratulations to these newly elected 6th grade student government representatives. House 6-1: Ryland Tigges, Dillon Gottschalk, and Julia Meehan. House 6-2: Jada Tate, Robin Smith, Tremonta Dukes, and Heather Hostager. Coming soon: our newly elected 7th and 8th grade representatives.

4) The final turn in and prize day for the magazine sale is Wednesday, November 2nd. For 3 orders you will be able to play bingo. For every 3 orders you turn in, you will receive a bingo card. You can win cash and prizes at the Bingo Game. The big prize is the Kalahari Theme Park Trip. Remember, you just need 10 orders by the end of the sale and you will be going on the Kalahari Theme Park Trip If you have earned the trip, please turn in your permission slip in the office. Remember to turn your orders in on Wednesday, November 2nd. Also be sure to register at www.aphearst.com and send emails to your friends and family members so they can support our fundraiser. All internet orders count double toward your wall chart prizes.

5) LEAP- Healthy Meals in a Hurry If you signed up for the LEAP activity, Healthy Meals in a Hurry, a yellow slip was sent home last week asking for a parent signature to indicate that the you would be attending the 3 sessions of this cooking classes. Food will be distributed for you to cook a meal at home and it's important that we know who will be attending. Please return the signed sheet to the office...you can bring it at conference time. If you did not receive a yellow slip and you signed up for this class, please call Ann Beau, site facilitator for LEAP at 590-2647.

6) Jefferson Open Gym Nights Open Gym nights will be held at Jefferson on Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00pm starting November 7th. You must be registered to attend through the LEAP program. Only Jefferson students are allowed to participate in this program. Students that are registered to attend will also need to have their Jefferson student photo ID with them when they arrive or they will not be allowed to participate.

2) Reminder...Any girls interested in the Dream All-Girl Middle School Full Day Event on October 15th, should stop by the main office and pick up a brochure.

3) Mrs. Vansteenburg will not be here today.

4) Sports Today...7th Grade Football - Galena vs. Jefferson Red at Jefferson beginning at 4 p.m.

5) Sports Today...8th Grade Football - Jefferson vs. Western Dubuque Red at Western Dubuque at 4 p.m.

6) Birthdays today...October 11th...Alex Freiburger.

7) 7-8th grade girls basketball practice begins on Wednesday, October 12th. You must have a current physical on file to participate. Interested students please sign up during your lunch today. 7-8th grade Wrestling practice begins on Monday, October 17th. You must have a current physical on file in the office to participate. Interested students sign up during your lunch time this week.

8) ID's are required for the dance/activity on Friday afternoon. Please come to the office before Friday to have ID's made, they are $3 dollars. The office will not be making any cards on Friday.
