Tuesday, October 16, 2012 Day B

1) Sports Today...8th Grade Football - Jefferson vs. Washington at Washington at 4:15 p.m.

2) Birthdays Today - October 16th...Kory Fettkether, Koehler Miller, Joshua Weiner.

3) Do you like to design and create? Are you a team player? Do you want to learn how to program a robot? Do you like Legos? If you answered yes to all questions, we want you to join First Lego League. Practices will be from 11:55-12:55 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Our team will compete at Washington Middle School on December 8th. For more information or to sign up, please see Ms. Weber in the guidance area. Our first practice will be Monday, October 22nd. Only 10 members will be selected, so if you are interested, sign up as soon as possible.

4) Girls basketball practice for grades 7-8 began yesterday. You must have a physical and concussion form on file in the main office in order to practice.

5) Our first school dance is Friday, October 19th from 2:30-4:30 PM. The cost to attend is $3 and you must have a photo id. Students who have had more than 3 office referrals and in or out of school suspensions are not allowed to attend this dance. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Our first dance is a pink out, so show your support for those with breast cancer by wearing pink.

1) 6th Grade Girls Track today after school.

2) Sports Today...Girls Gold Volleyball - Jefferson Gold vs. Mazzuchelli Blue. 7th grade only at Jefferson at 4 p.m. 8th Grade "B" Football - Washington at Jefferson at 4 p.m. Jefferson Cross Country Meet at Western Dubuque (Epworth) beginning at 4:30 p.m.

3) Winter sports are just around the corner…. Girls basketball starts October 18th, and boys wrestling starts October 22nd. Make sure you have an updated physical turned into the main office if you want to participate.

3) Sports Today...Girls Red Volleyball - Jefferson Red vs. Roosevelt Purple. 7th grade at Roosevelt and 8th grade at Jefferson; both games begin at 4 p.m. 8th Grade Football - Jefferson vs. Drexler Black at Epworth at 4:15 p.m.

4) Do you love to act? The Bell Tower Theater is offering acting classes for students in grades 6-8. For more information, pick up a form in the main office. Class sizes are limited and there is a fee to participate.

5) Alley Cats are back for an encore performance tonight in Auditorium. If you want to see them again, you must sign-up through LEAP.

4) Any student that has not been photographed or would like a retake please stop by the main office and sign up for Picture Retakes today.

5) Do you love to act? The Bell Tower Theater is offering acting classes for students in grades 6-8. For more information, pick up a form in the main office. Class sizes are limited and there is a fee to participate.

6) Dare to be King/Queen will be today at 2:30 in the Auditorium. Make sure you have your registration papers signed by a parent to participate.

The deadline for receiving refusal of consent is September 20, 2012. The survey is offered every two years in the fall. This year it will offered between September 24 and November 2 of 2012. The District will post the notification in the Handbook each year instead of mailing individual letters. If you need a copy of the Handbook, please contact your student’s school. Student Announcements - Thursday, September 13, 2012 Day A

1) Students are reminded at the end of the day, you need to be out of the building by 2:40pm. Do not linger in hallways. If you are planning on attending an after school event, you must leave school grounds and return at the start of the event. While attending an after school event, you are not permitted to come in or out of building, you are here to watch, and be supportive to Jefferson students participating. If you are not watching the event, you will be asked to leave. Appropriate behavior is expected while watching after school events, any and all inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and you will be escorted out of the building. No exceptions.

2) LEAP registrations can still be turned into the main office.

1) Remember to save Box Tops, Campbell Soup Labels and Prairie Farms Milk Caps, there will be a contest coming soon!

2) 6th grade girls track meets tonight immediately after school.

3) Sports Today...Girls Volleyball - Jefferson Red vs. Washington Blue. 7th grade at Jefferson and 8th grade at Washington; both games begin at 4 p.m. 8th Grade Football - Jefferson vs. Mazzuchelli at Jefferson beginning at 4 p.m. 7th and 8th Girls/Boys Cross Country - Meet at the Dubuque Soccer Complex beginning at 4:30 p.m.

4) Students interested in joining Dare to Be King or Queen, report to the auditorium on Friday, September 7th at 12:30 for a short informational meeting.

5) Do not wear any type of ear plugs or ear phones during the school day. Keep them in your locker. If an adult tells you to take them off, just do it. They are not allowed over or under your shirt.

2) Reminder...Any girls interested in the Dream All-Girl Middle School Full Day Event on October 15th, should stop by the main office and pick up a brochure.

4) Sports Today...7th Grade Football - Galena vs. Jefferson Red at Jefferson beginning at 4 p.m.

5) Sports Today...8th Grade Football - Jefferson vs. Western Dubuque Red at Western Dubuque at 4 p.m.

6) Birthdays today...October 11th...Alex Freiburger.

7) 7-8th grade girls basketball practice begins on Wednesday, October 12th. You must have a current physical on file to participate. Interested students please sign up during your lunch today. 7-8th grade Wrestling practice begins on Monday, October 17th. You must have a current physical on file in the office to participate. Interested students sign up during your lunch time this week.

8) ID's are required for the dance/activity on Friday afternoon. Please come to the office before Friday to have ID's made, they are $3 dollars. The office will not be making any cards on Friday.

Honor Band We have Jefferson 6 students accepted into the 2011 Loras Honor Band on the 28th of October! They are: Lizzie Grace: Flute Tayler Reynolds: Flute Lucas Kaufmann: Flute Samantha Wieland: Clarinet Brianna Fry: Clarinet Adam Mueller: Alto Saxophone These students will be playing with 73 other Middle School musicians from the surrounding area. Congratulations!

6) Please observe the following expectations during breakfast at Jefferson: 
  • Students need to have their I.D. cards (If they do not, they will be asked to wait).
  • Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:40 a.m.
  • Students need to place their book bags along the wall as they enter. 
  • While eating, talk quietly and clean up after yourself. 
  • ALL students will be dismissed no later than 7:45 a.m. at which time they will need to go outside and wait with their peers for the morning bell.
