3) The Hempstead Booster Club is sponsoring the Annual Bunny Hop 4K Run/Walk on April 7th. Please consider supporting this important fund raising event. Registration forms are available in the main office. Return forms to the main office.

4) Anyone who hasn't turned in their basketball uniforms, needs to do it asap or you will be charged.

5) There are only a couple spots left for the April 2nd Zip-line activity. Sign-up today!

6) Winners of the Battle of the Books school competition MUST get a permission slip signed and returned by Monday, April 2nd. Pick up the permission slips in the LRC. Thanks from Ms Cairns.

7) Leap Making Comics is today, March 30th.

6) Congratulations to the following students in House 6-1 whose essays were selected to be published in the book "What is Important to Me". They are entered in the final competition. The published writers are Brianna Fry, Evan Wieser, Mason Kobliska, Jeni McGlynn, Taylor Greenwald, Koehler Miller, Julia Meehan, and Griffin Benson. Keep up the excellent writing!

7) There is a musical rehearsal tomorrow with Mrs. Oglesby in the choir room. All members of the cast are encouraged to attend. Eat your lunch from 11:00 to 11:25 and then head over to the choir room. All major and minor cast members are supposed to bring their scripts with them.

7) Crew people for The Music Man, please listen up! There will be a meeting for everyone who signed up for Crew today after school. The meeting will be in Mrs. Duggan's room at 2:30 p.m. All crew members will be assigned a job at that meeting, so it is important that you attend. If you are in track or basketball, then please see Mrs. Steffen or Mrs. Duggan prior to the meeting. Again, the meeting for the crew is in Mrs. Duggan's room is today after school. There will also be rehearsal for all cast members with a speaking part today from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. Any cast member who is in track or basketball must come to rehearsal at 2:30. You will be dismissed for sports at 3:15 p.m.

8) UD for Kids is a summer enrichment program for gifted and talented students in the tri-state area. Nominated students demonstrate advanced abilities in academic, leadership, creative, and/or visual and performing arts areas. They exhibit a strong desire to learn. These students must also have the maturity to work effectively with small groups in unfamiliar settings.

The 21st year of UD for Kids will be held this summer. Classes are held from 12:30-4:00 p.m. on the University of Dubuque campus (unless otherwise noted) during the following weeks:

· Session Three: July 9-13, 2012 for current fifth, sixth & seventh graders

Cost for each weeklong session is $115.00. This tuition includes a UD Kids t shirt and light daily snacks. (Limited partial scholarship assistance may be available but not guaranteed. Please indicate your need for assistance when registering.)

Check out the UD Kids website for the opening registration dates in March and April. If you choose to attend, you must register via the University of Dubuque web site. You will need your school code in order to register. Please do not share this school code with others. Contact Mr. Hatcher at rhatcher@dbqschools.org for Jefferson’s school code.

If you do not have a computer at home, please talk with your school and find out if one of the school computers could be available for your use.

9) Wellness classes at Jefferson just finished the 2nd reporting period (28 days) of the 100 Day Challenge for Live Healthy Iowa Kids. Students were recording daily activity minutes and vegetable servings from February 15th through March 13th. Mrs. Lucas' classes had a total of 639,087 activity minutes and 9333 vegetable servings. Mrs. Lucas' 7-1 B class had the most activity minutes with 81,531, and her 6-2 B class had the most vegetable servings with 1513. Mr. Wischmeyer's classes had a total of 506,951 activity minutes and 7857 vegetable servings. Mr. Wischmeyer's 6-2 A class had the most activity minutes with 59,825, and his 7-2 B class had the most vegetable servings with 1223. Students started recording activity minutes and milk/water servings on March 14th and will continue to through April 10th. Students are reminded to stay active, make healthy eating/drinking choices, and keep up the great work!

3) Hempstead Fall Cheerleading mandatory preseason tryout meeting has been canceled and so have the April tryouts. These will be rescheduled for a time in May, listen for announcements.

5)Attention all 7th grade students...The Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) will have a FREE Dental Sealant Program at Jefferson in the auditorium tomorrow, March 23. This includes a dental exam and application of preventive dental sealants. Consent forms are still available in the Nurses Office and must be completed and returned to the Nurses Office by this Thursday, March 22. Please contact the Nurses Office if you have any questions.

12) The Dubuque Arts Council is sponsoring a free concert by The Kipperton String Quartet, who is finishing it's residency this week, on Friday night (March 23rd) at Loras College's Gallagher Hall, in the Visitation Building, corner of Alta Vista and University. They have a great program for students and the concert will be no exception.

13) Play practice tonight for all leads from 2:30 - 4 p.m.
