Friday, February 28, 2014 - Day A

1) Jefferson Wellness classes are participating in Live Healthy Iowa Kids again this year. The yellow calendar began February 22nd and will go through March 7th. Students are to be recording milk servings and activity minutes on these calendars. The pink calendars are due right now to Mrs. Lucas and Mr. Wischmeyer. Any questions, please ask the Wellness teachers.

2) March 7th is our next school dance. In the spirit of “March Madness” we will have a 3 on 3 basketball tournament if we have enough teams sign up. There will be a boys and girls bracket, and if enough teams sign-up we will have grade level tournaments. Entry fee per team is $1.00. Sign-up in Mr. Hatcher’s office, now until March 6th. Teacher 3 on 3 teams are welcomed and encouraged. There will also be, a DJ for dancing, face painting, pizza and other treats, karaoke, and possibly a Connect-4 tournament for prizes. Remember if you had 3 or more office referrals between December 6th (last dance) through March 7th you are not allowed to attend.

3) Birthdays Today - February 28th...Ryan Zierden. March 1st...Nicholas Wobbema. March 2nd...Isabella Kuennen, D.J. Wynn.

4) The Bookfair is coming back! Many new exciting titles, along with the Iowa Teen Award books. The fair will be the week of March 10th-13th and during Parent Teacher Conferences. The fair will be open during the school day on Monday, March 10th, 11th, and 12th in the Library. You can also stop by the library before or after your conferences to purchase books from the fair. Hope to see you there!

5) Sports Today - Boys Gold Basketball...Jefferson Gold vs. Washington Blue. 7th grade at Jefferson and 8th grade at Washington; both games begin at 4 p.m.

6) Congratulations to our YCF students who participated at the Young Citizen's Forum Summit.  Our national issue group received the Diplomacy Award for outstanding preparation and participation.  Two students, Drew Kirton and Vera Weis, were named as Outstanding Delegates which are chosen by peers and facilitators.

1) Jefferson Wellness classes are participating in Live Healthy Iowa Kids again this year. The pink calendar began Saturday, February 8th and ends Friday, February 21st. Students are to be recording vegetable servings and activity minutes on these calendars. The pink calendars will be due February 25th to Mrs. Lucas and Mr. Wischmeyer. Any questions, please ask the Wellness teachers.

2) The office is sending out bills to parents and the library would like students to check your lockers and backpacks for overdue library books. Please return them as soon as you can so that you won’t have charges for the books. Thank you, Ms. Duclos and Ms. Neyens.

3) This is "No Unkind Words Week". An important part of being kind is thinking about how another person feels. It may be helpful to stop and think before you say something. Ask how you would feel if someone said that to you. Let's all work to create a school where everyone feels welcome and safe. During this week, the Anti-Bullying Alliance is hoping that you have been thinking about the words you use. When people use fewer unkind words, and more kind words, it can be contagious. Are you part of the problem or part of the solution? 8th graders, please check your lockers after homebase.

Dubuque Little League Registration: Registration is now open for the Dubuque Little League 2014 season. Players ages 4 through 15 are eligible to play in one of five divisions. Please visit www.dllb.org to register or obtain additional information. Registration closes on Monday, February 24.

DARE Ski NIght DARE Ski Night this Friday, February 21st, 2014, at Sundown. Registration is from 4 P.M.- to 6 P.M. in the group office. Skiers and snowboarders may ski until closing. This Ski Night is open to all students, faculty , staff and their families. This is not a chaperoned event, so children should not come alone. (Officer O’Brien does not ski.) Prices are: $13.00 for just a lift ticket; $18.00 for a lift ticket and ski rental (includes a lesson if you wish); $24.00 for a lift ticket and snowboard rental (includes a lesson if you wish); and $5.00 Helmet rental. If there are any questions, parents may call officer O’Brien at 589-7862.
