Monday, August 31, 2015 -- Day A

1) Students participating in any sport at Jefferson needs a sports physical on file with the main office. Physicals are good for 13 months. If you need help getting a physical see Mr. Hatcher ASAP!

2) LEAP programs start Sept. 14th, all registration needs to be returned to main office by Sept. 4th. Remember this is a first come, first serve program. Some activities, spots are limited. Your homebase teacher will have more info.

3) Boys and girls 6th grade track and field intramural's will start Sept. 8th. Students need to have a sports physical to participate.

4) Picture Day is Friday, September 4th. Remember to bring your picture packets back.

1) All students enrolling in an Iowa high school as 9th graders or newly enrolled are required to have a dental screening. The Certificate of Dental Screening is available on the Dubuque Community School District website at http://www.dbqschools.org/parents/quick-links/forms. It is one of the forms that can be downloaded as part of the online registration process. Please make your appointments early for your student’s dental screening. The certificate can be brought with you at registration at the high schools or can be sent to the school health office at any time prior to the start of school.

2) Iowa legislation requires all students entering the 7th grade to provide proof that a Tdap immunization booster was given if born on or after September 15, 2000. Tdap contains a booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. This new requirement will help protect your child and others from whooping cough. Documentation of the Tdap vaccine on a Certificate of Immunization will need to be provided to the school nurse prior to the first day of school unless your doctor signs a Certificate of Exemption, excluding them from receiving the vaccine. If a Tdap dose was administered to your child on or after their 10th birthday, this will meet the new school requirement. During summer break, check with your doctor or Public Health to see if your child needs to receive this booster. Bring the Certificate of Immunization with you on registration day or give a copy to the school health office before classes resume. This is a state requirement and if your child does not receive the vaccine or an exemption from your doctor, he/she will be excluded from school until the vaccine has been administered.

Students in 6-7th grade will receive awards for academic honor roll. Seventh grade students will also receive recognition for participating in 3 or more extra-curricular activities. Eighth grade students will receive awards for academic honor roll, Presidents Award for academic excellence, participation in 3 or more extra-curricular activities, American Legion, and Lefty Koob Memorial Award. Parents with a child receiving the American Legion and Lefty Koob Awards will be notified ahead of time. These parent are encouraged to attend the ceremony. All parents are invited to attend. Students will be notified of the awards they will receive by Tuesday, May 26th.

6) Congratulations to the Warriors 3 on 3 basketball team. They won the tournament at the Dance Friday night. The Warriors are Daquan Lewis, Derrick Welton, Eli Herrion and Colton Davis all 7th graders. They beat Adam Hermison, Ben Jaeger, Aiden Dunne and Zach Sabers all 6th graders by 2 points in the final game. Nice job everyone, the dance was another huge success and great time. Next time we will get more Root Beer floats, they lasted approximately 10 minutes.
