Monday, December 9, 2013 Day B

1) Students who are in the talent show and working as crew for the talent show will rehearse today, December 9th. The following students will report to the lunchroom at 10:45 to eat before rehearsal. Rehearsal will take place in the auditorium from 11:00-12:30. Sixth and seventh graders will be late to 7th period. 8th graders will miss the beginning of 6th period on those days. 2) There will be a book fair in the Library from today until December 13th. The hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

3) Auditions for Jefferson's musical, Fiddler on the Roof will be after school in the Auditorium on December 12th and December 13th.

4) Birthdays Today - December 9th...Harrison Kivlahan.

5) Belin-Blank nominees: Permission slips need to be turned in to Ms. Weber or Mrs. Eimers in the guidance area by Wednesday, December 11th. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Weber.

6) Sports Today - Girls Basketball...Jefferson vs. Drexler Red. 7th grade at Jefferson and 8th grade at Drexler; both games begin at 4 p.m.

7) Reminder...There will be an adjusted schedule for tomorrow because of the 2 performances for the Talent Show.

8) Congratulations to the Hillhawk Heroes, our First Lego League team that won the “Against All Odds” award at the Regional Competition on Saturday.  This award goes to the team that improvises and overcomes a difficult situation while still making a respectable showing, with an attitude that shows, “We can overcome incredible odds if we never give up, no matter what!”   Team members included:  Sean Bradley, Riley Connolly, Alex Cota, Owen Dunne, Elizabeth Freiburger, Taya Hess, Tyler Lyons, Maddie Peter, Joe Vize, Moriah Zimmerman, Eric McDonough, Logan Ellingboe, Addison Kalb, Mason Kobliska, and Noah Dougherty.  The Heroes would like to thank their coach Mrs. Meyer for all of her support.

Student Announcements - Friday, December 6, 2013 Day A

1) S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G B-E-E. If you are a great speller, we want you to represent Jefferson in the Telegraph Herald spelling bee in January at Clarke University. Interested students should contact Ms. Weber to sign up.

7) Loras College Dance Marathon is a year-long fundraiser run by students that provides support to children from Dubuque and the surrounding areas who have been treated at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and their families. We support the children and their families emotionally and financially through the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and help give them a second chance at being kids. Read the stories some of our families posted in the cafeteria. We hope to see you at the dance on Friday to help support our cause.

8) Fundraiser items at Friday’s dance will be: (bracelets for $2 either blue or glow in the dark); (throw back tee shirts for $5 in variety of colors); (silly bands for $0.25); and (sunglasses for $3). Remember all proceeds go to Iowa Children’s hospital.

DRA Grant at Work

A very special thanks to the DRA for the grant that helped us to purchase 12 Lenovo ThinkPad tablets and keyboards for our students to use! Thank you for your tremendous generosity!

2) Sports Today - Girls Basketball...Jefferson vs. Roosevelt Silver. 7th grade at Jefferson and 8th grade at Roosevelt; both games begin at 4 p.m.

3) Our next Dance/Activity night will be held on Friday, December 6th from 2:30-4:30 PM. This is our Mini Dance Marathon and the proceeds of this dance will be donated to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.  The cost for admission is $5 and you must have a photo id. Replacement IDs may be purchased in the main office.
