Public Input Meetings regarding Hempstead HS Renovations

TheDubuque Community School District has taken the first steps in the planningefforts for completing the additions and renovations at Hempstead High School.It is the district’s desire and intent to involve the community andstakeholders in this effort and we would like to gather input from allinterested individuals and groups.

FEHAssociates Architects and Engineers of Dubuque has been selected as the designprofessional for this exciting work. They will be conducting a series ofinterviews and Public Design workshops on the Hempstead High School Campus. Thedesign team will be working on site to gather input and develop the projectspace needs, designs, and schemes. The meetings are scheduled as follows:

3) Sports Today...Boys Basketball - Drexler Black vs. Jefferson Gold. 7th grade at Drexler and 8th grade at Jefferson; both games beginning at 4 p.m.

Boys Basketball Players Boys on any of the four basketball teams need to remember that they are a team. Yes, some play in the A game and others in the B game, however you are ONE team. All players are expected to be a part of the team for both games. If your game is over and there is still another game to be played you need to stay there with the team and support them just like they did for you while you played. Mr. Kramer

Student Expectations at Basketball Games Any student that attends the basketball games at Jefferson must follow the following expectations:
1. Just like in school. No hats, hoods, etc.
2. Cell phones should be used on a limited basis. If you are going to be on your cell often you will be asked to leave.
3. Do not interfere with others as they watch the game. If your conversations are loud or you are pounding your hands or feet on the bleachers, etc., you are preventing other guests from enjoying the game.
4. You are not allowed to leave the school building and return. Once you walk outside you are not coming back in.
5. No public displays of affection such as holding hands; arms around each other, etc. is allowed. This is not appropriate for middle school.
6. Be positive in all of your comments and cheer on the Jefferson players. Negative comments or inappropriate language is not acceptable nor will it be tolerated.
7. Continually going in and out of the gym is not appropriate and it causes a distraction to those that are there to enjoy the game. If you are continuously going in and out of the gym you will be asked to leave.
8. No one is allowed on the basketball court except the players, coaches, officials, and other assigned personnel.
9. You may be banned from attending any after school performances for any of the above infractions or any other disrespectful behavior. Attending these activities is a privilege.
10. It is important that you support your friends as they participate in these activities. Please do so in an appropriate way without disrespecting other guests opportunity to enjoy the game as well. Thank you, Mr. Kramer

4. You are not allowed to leave the school building and return. Once you walk outside you are not coming back in.
5. No public displays of affection such as holding hands; arms around each other, etc. is allowed. This is not appropriate for middle school.
6. Be positive in all of your comments and cheer on the Jefferson players. Negative comments or inappropriate language is not acceptable nor will it be tolerated.
7. Continually going in and out of the gym is not appropriate and it causes a distraction to those that are there to enjoy the game. If you are continuously going in and out of the gym you will be asked to leave.
8. No one is allowed on the basketball court except the players, coaches, officials, and other assigned personnel.
9. You may be banned from attending any after school performances for any of the above infractions or any other disrespectful behavior. Attending these activities is a privilege.

It is our annual Mini DanceMarathon and proceeds raised are donated to the Loras College Dance Marathon and Children's Miracle Network, helping kids all over the state/locally who are battlingillnesses and disease. 6) This Holiday season the JAVAstaff will be selling Christmas Grams to anyone interested. Purchase aChristmas gram for your friends, or teachers. On the Christmas grammake sure you include who it is for, who it is from, and the homebase ofthe student or teacher you are buying it for. During homebase on the lastday of school before Christmas break Java will deliver the Grams with aCandy Cane to anyone who receives one. You can color the picture onthe front and write a little Holiday message on the inside. They cost 25cents each. You pick them up from Cart Mart starting tomorrow. Afteryou complete the Christmas Gram you can take it to the library and put itin the Christmas Gram box. They will be delivered to your homebase on thelast day of school before Christmas break. 7) Our next school dance/activity night will be on Friday, December 16th. It is our annual Mini DanceMarathon and proceeds raised are donated to the Loras College Dance Marathon and Children's Miracle Network, helping kids all over the state/locally who are battlingillnesses and disease. Cost for the dance is $3, and there will be some extra activities like dodgeball and knockout which are available for $1. Snacks will be available for purchase. You must have a school id to attend the dance and ID's will not be made on Friday.

5) LEAP- Healthy Meals in a Hurry If you signed up for the LEAP activity , Healthy Meals in a Hurry, a yellow slip was sent home last week asking for a parent signature to indicate that the you would be attending the 3 sessions of this cooking classes. Food will be distributed for you to cook a meal at home and it's important that we know who will be attending. Please return the signed sheet to the office...you can bring it at conference time. If you did not receive a yellow slip and you signed up for this class, please call Ann Beau, site facilitator for LEAP at 590-2647.

If you will be participating in the Bingo activity and you are in band, orchestra or choir make sure that you let your teachers know. Again, 10 orders gets you and all expense paid trip to the Kalahari at the Dells on November 19th.

4) Please pay attention to the following expectations when eating breakfast at Jefferson:

Students need to have their I.D. cards (if they don't, they'll be asked to wait).
Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:40 a.m.
Students need to place their book bags along the wall as they enter
While eating, talk quietly and clean up after yourself
ALL students will be dismissed no later than 7:45 a.m. at which time they will need to go outside and wait with their peers for the morning bell.
